Welcome to Party Lore! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Party Lore Discord-based role-playing game service. By signing up or using Party Lore, you agree to these Terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Party Lore, you confirm that:

  • You have read and understood these Terms
  • You agree to be bound by these Terms
  • You meet the eligibility requirements (see Section 2)
  • You have the authority to enter into this agreement

If you don't agree to these Terms, please don't use our service.

2. Eligibility

2.1 Age Requirements

  • Minimum Age: You must be at least 18 years old to use Party Lore
  • Age Verification: We may request age verification at any time
  • Enforcement: Accounts found to belong to users under 18 will be terminated

2.2 Additional Requirements

  • Must have a Discord account
  • Must not be prohibited from using the service by any applicable law
  • Must not have been previously banned from Party Lore

3. Service Description

3.1 What Party Lore Is

Party Lore is an asynchronous, multiplayer Discord-based tabletop role-playing game featuring:

  • AI-powered dungeon master narratives
  • Collaborative gameplay with 2-6 players
  • 2 distinct realms (fantasy mercenaries, cyberpunk heists, political thriller, horror survival, and more)
  • Mission-based adventures delivered via Discord
  • Game mechanics handled automatically behind the scenes

3.2 Beta Status

Party Lore is currently in BETA. This means:

  • Features may change or be discontinued
  • Service may experience downtime or bugs
  • Content and gameplay are still being refined
  • We're actively seeking feedback to improve
  • No guarantee of uninterrupted service

3.3 What Party Lore Is NOT

  • Not a replacement for emergency services or mental health support
  • Not intended for anyone under 18
  • Not a guaranteed always-available service (especially during beta)
  • Not an official licensed RPG product (we're an independent game)

4. Account and Registration

4.1 Account Creation

To use Party Lore, you must:

  • Connect your Discord account
  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Authorize the bot in your server
  • Choose an appropriate display name

4.2 Account Security

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the security of your Discord account and access
  • All activities that occur under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access
  • Keeping your contact information current

4.3 One Account Per Person

You may only create one account per Discord user. Multiple accounts may result in suspension or termination.

5. Pricing and Payments

5.1 Beta Pricing

  • Current Beta: FREE access for all beta testers
  • After Launch: Subscription required (pricing TBD)
  • No Refunds: Beta service provided as-is

5.2 Future Subscriptions

After beta, Party Lore will require a subscription. We will:

  • Provide 30 days notice before requiring payment
  • Offer multiple subscription tiers
  • Allow you to cancel anytime before being charged
  • Grandfather beta testers with special pricing (details TBD)

5.3 Cancellation

  • Cancel anytime by leaving the server or using /opt-out
  • No cancellation fees
  • Access continues until end of billing period (for paid subscriptions)
  • Data retained per our Privacy Policy unless you request deletion

6. User Conduct and Content

6.1 Acceptable Use

You agree to:

  • Be respectful to other players and the AI
  • Follow community guidelines and game rules
  • Use Party Lore only for its intended purpose (gameplay)
  • Report bugs and abusive behavior
  • Respect intellectual property rights

6.2 Prohibited Conduct

You may NOT:

  • Harass, bully, or abuse other players
  • Use offensive, discriminatory, or illegal language
  • Attempt to "break" or exploit the AI
  • Share inappropriate or explicit content
  • Impersonate others or create fake accounts
  • Use automated tools or bots
  • Reverse engineer or copy our technology
  • Interfere with service operations
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations

6.3 User-Generated Content

  • Your Content: You retain ownership of your in-game messages and decisions
  • License to Us: You grant Party Lore a license to use your content to operate the service
  • AI-Generated Content: Story content generated by AI is owned by Party Lore
  • Sharing: Your in-game content is shared with your party members

6.4 Consequences of Violations

Violations may result in:

  • Warning and content removal
  • Temporary suspension
  • Permanent account termination
  • Legal action (in severe cases)

7. Intellectual Property

7.1 Party Lore Ownership

Party Lore owns all rights to:

  • The Party Lore name, logos, and branding
  • Game mechanics and systems
  • AI-generated narrative content
  • Software, code, and technology
  • Original artwork and designs

7.2 Third-Party Content

Party Lore respects intellectual property rights. We are not affiliated with Dungeons & Dragons, Wizards of the Coast, or Hasbro. Our game is inspired by tabletop RPGs but is an original creation.

7.3 Limited License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Party Lore for personal entertainment purposes. You may not:

  • Copy, modify, or distribute our content
  • Use our intellectual property commercially
  • Create derivative works
  • Reverse engineer our technology

8. Privacy and Data

Your privacy is important to us. Our Privacy Policy explains:

  • What data we collect and why
  • How we protect your information
  • Your rights and choices
  • How to contact us about privacy

By using Party Lore, you also agree to our Privacy Policy.

9. Service Availability and Modifications

9.1 Service Availability

We strive for reliable service but cannot guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • Specific response times
  • Compatibility with all Discord versions
  • Availability in all locations

9.2 Modifications and Updates

We may:

  • Modify features, content, or gameplay at any time
  • Perform maintenance with or without notice
  • Discontinue features or the service entirely
  • Update these Terms (with notice)

9.3 Beta Disclaimer

AS THIS IS A BETA SERVICE: IT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR BUGS, ERRORS, LOST DATA, OR INTERRUPTIONS DURING BETA TESTING.

10. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

10.1 Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

  • Party Lore is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE"
  • We make no warranties, express or implied
  • We don't guarantee specific results or outcomes
  • AI-generated content may contain errors or unexpected responses
  • We're not responsible for content created by other players

10.2 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PARTY LORE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Lost profits, data, or opportunities
  • Service interruptions or errors
  • Actions of other users

Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the claim (or $100 for beta users).

10.3 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Party Lore harmless from any claims arising from:

  • Your use of the service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of others' rights
  • Your user-generated content

11. Termination

11.1 Termination by You

You may stop using Party Lore at any time by:

  • Leaving the server or using /opt-out
  • Requesting account deletion
  • Simply stopping usage

11.2 Termination by Us

We may suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • Your account is inactive for extended periods
  • We discontinue the service
  • Required by law or legal process

11.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination:

  • Your access to Party Lore ends immediately
  • You remain responsible for any outstanding obligations
  • Certain provisions survive (intellectual property, liability limitations)
  • Data handling follows our Privacy Policy

12. Dispute Resolution

12.1 Informal Resolution

Before filing any claim, please contact us at support@partylore.com to resolve the issue informally. Most disputes can be resolved through communication.

12.2 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

12.3 Arbitration Agreement

Any disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration rather than in court, except for small claims court matters or IP disputes. Class action lawsuits are waived.

13. General Provisions

13.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, along with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Party Lore.

13.2 Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via:

  • Discord notification to active users
  • Email (if provided)
  • Notice on our website

Continued use after changes indicates acceptance.

13.3 Severability

If any provision is found unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect.

13.4 No Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right doesn't waive that right.

13.5 Assignment

You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign our rights and obligations.
